This is a realistically told story about a romance between two innocents that flames brightly before calamitous events precipitated by hate, bigotry and transphobia test the values and principles of the "righteous" as this novel winds toward a very exciting conclusion. Wrestling Against myself is the story of High School senior and star wrestler Antonio LaMano. This is to be his year, the year where he puts everything together and achieves all of his goals on and off the mat. He is already a leader at Dunedin High School and at his church, but when a new girl shows up at school his convictions are tested.
What is with this girl? Why is she subject to taunts and bullying? Antonio is at a loss, but does not like the way the school is responding and decides to take action. Surely she is hiding a secret, but can any freshman girl do something so bad that it warrants such vile treatment? Antonio sets to find out.
When the secret is revealed that the girl is transsexual, Antonio is faced with a greater dilemma, does he forsake the girl and rejoin the crowd or does he go against the tide and try to weather the storm. Either choice carries with it great consequences.

Katie Leone was born and raised in New York City. At 15 she attended high school in Dunedin, Florida where she was heavily involved with the church youth group and wrestling team. She is a Graduate of Cumberland (Tn.) University with a degree in early childhood growth and learning. Currently residing in Tampa, Ms. Leone has worked as a teacher, a minister, a life coach and was on the Board of directors of a local charity. Currently she has dedicated herself to teaching through her writing and has many more works planned.

Well worth reading

A book about high school life and growing up, but with an interesting twist. Anybody who knows the author, or her works, will know what Courtney's secret is going to be from the start. However, even if you know what is coming, it is the suspense of when the main characters are going to find out, and how people are going to react, that makes this a thrilling read.
This book makes a refreshing change from others in the genre by not having the principle character be the one with the secret. Instead it is another student who is undergoing an identity crisis. This allows the author to explore the issues from a different angle.
The main character of this book is a born again Christian, and his faith shapes how he goes about life. It is his attitude of "doing the right thing" and not being judgemental, that dictates his actions throughout. I often find the use of religion in books off-putting. As someone who is not overly religious I find constant references to God annoying in some stories. However, despite the religious references, I didn't feel preached at with this book. I think Katie has done a good job in keeping the religious elements balanced. The discussions with the pastor help to show the thought processes the character is going through without becoming overwhelming.
This book is well worth reading and is well paced, holding suspense throughout as the girl's secret is slowly revealed to the school, and the fallout of her past affects all those around her.

Fantastic Story about the Trials and Tribuations of life

Being in high school is hard and Katie Leone has done a wonderful job depicting some of those hardships and trials that some people can go through. This story can become a Bestseller as it is exceptionally well written and describes the bigotry and hatred those that are different can experience from other people even if it is unintentional. Wrestling Against Myself is one story that will keep you in suspense till the very end.
