Affirmation cards encourage more love to come into your life

Charming 2-sided affirmation cards with colorful illustrations are very upbeat. Initially I thought these cards were created for single people to help bring them true love however these cards are more about love in general. The cards remind you to show love to your family & friends as well as your significant other.
Some of my favorite affirmations:
"From time to time, I ask those I love, "How can I love you more?"
"Life is very simple. What I give out comes back to me. Today I choose to give love."
"I am in a joyous, intimate relationship with a person who truly loves me."

An Encyclopedia of Supernatural Fiction

Kent State University Press issued this 723-page comprehensive survey of supernatural fiction in 1983. Here is the blurb on the title page: "A full description of 1,775 books from 1750 to 1960, including ghost stories, weird fiction, stories of supernatural horror, fantasy, Gothic novels, occult fiction, and similar literature. With author, title, and motif indexes." This book is ordered alphabetically by author.

The author, science fiction and fantasy editor and bibliographer Everett F. Bleiler (1920 - 2010) won the 1978 World Fantasy Award (Special, Professional), the 1984 SFRA Pilgrim Award, the 1988 World Fantasy Life Achievement Award, the 1994 First Fandom Award, and the 2004 International Horror Guild Living Legend Award for his work. This encyclopedic book must have been a labor of love.

Sometimes the author has difficulty figuring out the plot of a particular story and makes use of exclamation points and question marks, as in these two stories by R.H. Benson:

"The Bridge over the Stream"--"The old priest claims that death is not evil. He once saw God push a little boy under a cart wheel!"

"Under Which King?"--"A priest, visiting vicious Lord B., asks him to forego a suit that he is presenting. The priest unwittingly speaks words that bring Lord B. to his knees. God? Devil? Telepathic transfer?"

The main part of this encyclopedia ranges from Abdullah, Achmed (Achmed Abdulla Nadir Khan al-Durani al-Idrissiyeh; Moslem name of Romanowski, Alexander) to Zacherley (pseudo. of Zacherle, John C.) There is also a supplementary listing of Akerman, John Yonge to Strong, Leonard Alfred George. Some of the entries, such as the ones for H.P. Lovecraft and M.R. James run to multiple pages. Here is the entry for one of the latter author's most famous stories:

"Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad"--"Parkins, a scholar on holiday, while poking around old Templar ruins at the seaside, finds an ancient metal whistle. On an impulse he blows it, and the winds rise. He also seems to see a vision of a man chased by something white and horrible across the beaches. Back at his hotel he has the distressing experience of encountering what his whistle had evoked: a malevolent cloth being."

After the main portion of the book, the author includes an essay, "The Phenomenology of Contranatural Fiction" in which he attempts a classification scheme for the 7,200 stories in this book.

This is the only book I've ever seriously considered stealing from the library. It is an absolute gold mine of information for the serious collector of supernatural fiction. I can only hope that another author takes on the task of extending its entries through the end of the 20th Century.

I am a BIG fan of code words. These can't be found in stores every where. Not quite crossword, not quite sudoku. A game in it's own league! match each letter to the corresponding number from 1-26. Each puzzle has a different number.

A book on Electroheat - Worth a place on your desk

If you are interested in the many ways of delivering electroheat this book is well worth a place on your desk. It is based on courses on electroheat given in the engineering dept of Cambridge University UK where Metaxas is a Fellow of St John's College. Here he combines mathematical treatment of the principles of electroheat with descriptions and sketches of a wide variety of industrial applications. He graciously acknowledges his debt to the many colleagues who have devoted their careers to the subject and quotes sources both in the text then in a reference list covering five pages in section 9.11.
This book is rich in graphs, illustrations and diagrams of processes. These are all black and white, clear, concise and free from the kind of costly artistic glitz that often preempts substance.
Metaxas provides a searching analytical treatment of the modes of heat generation and distribution in various materials when subjected to electromagnetic fields. The materials can be conductors, insulators or anything in between. He demonstrates that one compact mathematics and physics toolbox can bring understanding and an ability to handle a diverse range of applications. This is what brings "Unified Approach" into the title.
In the section on properties of materials Metaxas begins " The prime purpose of utilizing electrical energy in the processes considered in this book is either to elevate the temperature to effect annealing, curing, sterilizing or melting, to supply the necessary energy for drying as in dielectric or infra-red heating techniques, to provide sufficient energy for welding or cutting materials or to promote plasmas for a number of important industrial applications."
He describes and gives values for the properties of materials relevant to the heating process. These include electrical and thermal conductivity, specific heat, permittivity, dielectric loss, their dependence on temperature.
He shows many worked examples and calculations of induction heating in metals and dielectric heating in non-metals.
There is a section on applicators for electromagnetic heating. This includes:
Clamps for connecting ac power directly onto a metal rod for ohmic ( I²R ) heating.
The three-phase immersed electrode set up for ohmic heating in an electrode boiler or molten glass tank.
Various shapes of copper coils for induction heating of metal, covering parts and continuous profile.
Magnetic yoke designs for transverse flux, improving electromagnetic coupling for thin strip.
Parallel plate arrangements for applying HF electric fields to lossy dielectric materials.
Clamping applicators for HF welding of PVC.
Microwave traveling wave applicator for sheet material.
Microwave horn applicator for heating material in a conveyer tunnel.
This same section covers power sources downstream of the 50 or 60Hz public
supply. This section concerns conversion and control, stopping short of automatic feedback control. A book on control that complements this one is waiting for an author.
The silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) is shown, first as a simple modulator of ac power, then as a controller of the rectifier providing the high-voltage dc supply to a magnetron, then as a rectifier/inverter circuit for delivering medium frequency power to induction heaters.
50 and 60Hz three-phase transformers in saturated-core mode are featured, connected as frequency triplers.
Thermionic tube and solid-state amplifying and switching devices are shown in various oscillator circuits.
For microwave power generation the magnetron is described in some detail, along with its high voltage dc supplies.
Chapter 5 covers the ionized state of a plasma; described by Metaxas as "a state of gaseous material which contains a fair number of ionized particles resulting from the application of an external energy source"....... "may be in the form of dc or ac voltages of frequencies up to the microwave region and beyond"
Three regions of the plasma's voltage/current curve are defined, with their relevance to industrial processing:
Normal glow - about 0.1 to some 50mA, being energy sources for the CO2 laser, plasma chemistry and surface treatments, e.g. etching, assisted chemical and physical vapor depositions, ion implantation, oxidation and sputtering.
Abnormal glow - about 0.5 to 50A; glow discharge carburising and nitriding for surface treatment such as case hardening of ferrous and other components.
Arc discharge - about 1 to 10000A; Energy source for the Nd:YAG and Ruby lasers; plasma chemistry; plasma arc for cutting, welding or spraying; plasma furnaces; arc furnaces for metal melting; arc welding.
A detailed treatment with diagrams and circuits follows, covering lasers, arcs and electron beams.
Chapter 6 covers heat pumps and energy recovery, infra-red heating, air knife technology, induction applications, electrochemical processes, UV curing and ovens and furnaces.
Chapter 7 deals with heat and mass transfer.
Chapter 8 describes the use of computers and numerical techniques in electroheat calculations and processing. Computer developments in this area emerge faster than new book editions come out so you might want to search for new work from this author.
Some 70 pages of industrial applications and case studies follow, then ten appendices on mathematical topics and material properties.
The author index covers six pages and the subject index covers sixteen.
For me the strength of this book is in the variety of industrially proven techniques revealed and explained for the benefit of the processor and process developer.

Great Read

This is one of my favorite of the case files series. It combines a lot of the things from old mystery movies and books like secret passages and tunnels throw in a ghost or two and a creepy weird old guy plus one ex con and you come up with one great mystery. I definitely recommend this one to anyone rather a die hard Hardy Boys fan like me or someone who hasn't read them yet but is giving them a try!!!

I thought this was a very interesting book. As far as Casefiles go, it was ok. It was however a little different then some of the other casefiles. Surprise ending, and theme of the 20's. Very good.

About the Author

Hussein Al-Bahadili received his B.Sc degree in Engineering from College of Engineering (University of Baghdad, Iraq) in 1986. He received his M.Sc and PhD degrees in Engineering from Queen Mary College (University of London, UK) in 1988 and 1991, respectively. His field of study was parallel computers. He is currently working as an Associate Professor at Petra University, Jordan. He is a visiting researcher at the Wireless Networks and Communications Centre (WNCC) at the University of Brunel, UK. He is also a visiting researcher at the School of Engineering, University of Surrey, UK. He has published many papers and book chapters in different fields of science and engineering in numerous leading scholarly and practitioner journals, books, and presented at leading world-level scholarly conferences. His research interests include parallel and distributed computing, wireless communications, computer networks, cryptography and network security, data compression, image processing, and artificial intelligence and expert systems.
