You may go to hell for this book, but it's really good.

Sex, swearing, nudity, girl-on-girl kissing, and all sorts of thing that the local neo-conservatives will probably think damn you to hell. This takes place in Iowa - wonder if the GOP candidates will have to comment on it before the Iowa caucus? SJ Adams is really Adam Selzer, whose books have been challenged before. This is WAY edgier than his other ones, but it's funny, though-provoking, and has a lot of heart. Great book for weirdos, geeks, and teenagers who are dealing with questions about faith and religion. Aren't they all?

According to the good folks at The American Heritage Dictionary, a spark is "an incandescent particle," "a glistening particle of something, as metal," or "a flash of light; especially, a flash produced by electric discharge." But according to Emma and Tim, two high school misfits in Des Moines, Iowa, a spark is the "spark of blue" that everyone has inside of them , given by Blueda, visible only to those practicing Bluedaism, and capable of creating amazing things if it encounters a complementary spark of blue in someone else. This made-up religion of the two best friends is the fulcrum of the novel and the result of both of their decisions to kick destructive habits (eating disorders for Emma and drinking for Tom).

A shy teen, Debbie Woodlawn (and her religion) is the complete opposite of Emma and Tom. Since middle school, she has attended Active Christian Teens with her best friend, Lisa, a conservative Christian. And she's also watched hour upon hour of Full House reruns with her, eaten with her, hung out with her, watched movies with her . . . and pretended to like boys with her.

Actually, Debbie has secretly harbored a painful crush on Lisa for years, pretending to believe everything they tell her in Active Christian Teens meetings, pretending to like Full House, and hiding her real beliefs and preferences just so she can be around Lisa. When Lisa begins dating the most boring guy in school, Debbie is distraught. But then Emma and Tom step in, inviting Debbie on a $5 holy quest¯an introduction to Bluedaism. From the beginning of the quest onwards, Sparks is a roller coaster ride. Everything imaginable happens, from meeting bowling alley skanks and praying, to naked angels on tricycles.

If any of this sounds fun, that's because it is. Sparks is, quite simply, a fun read. The trio of Bluedists go on side trips and adventures on their way to helping Debbie express her love for Lisa, and each one is more ridiculous than the last. This book is definitely a page turner, if only because you want to read what incredibly crazy thing Debbie, Emma, and Tom are going to do next. And you'll definitely know what they're doing, because S.J. Adams's descriptions are so vivid and precise it feels like you're reading in Technicolor. The plot is so fast-paced and surprising that even if you know how the story's going to end up, you're willing to suspend disbelief and go along for the ride.

And by chapter three, you will pretty much know how the story's going to end up. Sure, there are some minor hiccups along the way, but for the most part, the plot follows the typical young adult hero template. Except this time it's not a young girl during the Holocaust or an Indian student attending Harvard, but a teenaged lesbian in love with her best friend.

Basically, don't look to Sparks to stir up deep thoughts. First off, books aren't the best tools for stirring (I'd suggest a spoon), and secondly, it's not going to challenge any of your assumptions, broaden any of your horizons, or rock any of your socks. What I can guarantee it will do is make you laugh¯and kind of want to go on a holy Bluedist quest yourself. So grab Sparks if you're headed for the beach or a long plane ride, and revel in irreverence.

I loved loved loved this book. I know, how many times can I say love? Seriously, it was fresh, funny and believable in all the best ways without falling back on stereotypes or biphobia, the way most teen lesbian novels often do. It made me laugh and it made me frustrated, but that's the mark of a good book, is it not?

Additionally, the questions might highlight some of your weaker areas of knowledge that need further attention.

This book aims to help you pass an interview for a SQL Developer. It provides plenty of basic SQL questions, and terse answers, perhaps too terse. If you already know the topics discussed, then the questions and answers are good starting points to expand upon. Most of the questions are relatively basic, but don’t cover all basic areas (e.g. Common Table Expressions are not mentioned).

The book could be improved by including more questions, providing more detailed answers, and by asking and answering more open technical questions (e.g. what troubleshooting techniques have you used? What do you do if a query suddenly runs slowly?).

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but that might be because I like answering questions! The book should be useful for SQL developers who already know the topics, and want to quickly revise some typical questions and answers – but don’t expect to learn too much. If you don’t know all the answers, the book will highlight the topics you should focus on.

This books is very easy to read and it helped me a lot with a job interview that I had. I am still waiting to hear back if I got the job, but I know that this book helped me so much. This book is not meant to learn SQL Server, because if you are interviewing for a job you would already know that. It just helps you provide the correct answers when asked certain questions.

About the Author
Andrew M. Leeds, PhD

, is a California-licensed psychologist and marriage and family therapist with 40 years of experience in the private practice of psychotherapy. He practices in Santa Rosa, CA. He is the director of training for Sonoma Psychotherapy Training Institute, which offers basic and advanced training programs in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Dr. Leeds received his BA in psychology with honors in 1972 from the University of California at Santa Cruz, an MA in clinical psychology in 1974 from Goddard College, and his PhD in clinical psychology in 1983 from International College. After early training in gestalt and somatic psychotherapies, Dr. Leeds served a 2-year internship as program coordinator for an alcohol abuse treatment program in Santa Cruz and received his license as a marriage and family therapist before going on to obtain his doctorate. During his doctoral program, he studied cognitive behavioral therapy, Ericksonian hypnosis, and self-psychology. Dr. Leeds received his initial EMDR therapy training in 1991 and became an EMDR therapy training supervisor that same year. In 1993, he became an EMDR therapy trainer. He has conducted basic EMDR therapy trainings for 15,000 clinicians at 140 training programs in the United States, Canada, France, England, and Japan. He has presented papers on EMDR therapy for regional, national, and international conferences. He is the author of a book, book chapters, and journal articles on EMDR therapy. He served for 2 years on the Standards and Training Committee of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) and for 3 years as an elected member of the EMDRIA Board of Directors. He presently serves as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the

Journal of EMDR Practice and Research

and, in 2013, was the guest editor for volume 7, issue number 3. He is an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant providing consultation to EMDR therapy clinicians around the world. Dr. Leeds contributed to the evolution of EMDR by articulating, publishing, and teaching the EMDR procedure that he named
